I can’t believe it’s been 1 year and 6 months since I’ve started my online customized cake store, Shiberty’s Sweets
What started out as a humble hobby and innocent interest, has exploded into a business opportunity that allows me to be both an artist and entrepreneur at the same time.
Thinking about all the difficulties and hurdles I’ve had to overcome to get to where we are today, I feel tearfully proud of both Sam and I. Couldn’t have done this without him being there with me every step of the way, through good times and the bad. It’s really not easy at all to juggle a full-time business, blogging, and being a normal 19 year old who has a healthy lifestyle at the same time. X_X Many times I have felt like giving up, but I’m glad I haven’t (yet LOL choy choy) I think my biggest triumph in this business so far (monetary value aside), is how we’ve gained the confidence of the public enough so much that a good number of people out there choose to let us be part of very special occasions in their lives, including 21st birthdays, wedding ceremonies, engagement parties and hen’s nights.. I know I’ve probably said this a million times before.. But it’s incredibly heart warming when people insist on having cakes baked & decorated by us when there are so many other great options out there, it’s like they trust us to make their special day even more precious for them. So thank you for believing in me. I’d like to share some love with you guys…. find out more towards the end of this post!!! ♥
Before you know success, you must first experience failure. *attempts to sound wise*
And while I’d like to think I did not exactly fail at maintaining my business in the beginning, I experienced obstructive bumps here and there along the road.. and I can’t help but think how much easier life would have been from the start, with the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro around to help me get my business sorted out.
The HP TopShot LaserJet Pro M275 MFP is one of HP’s coolest new gadgets. It lets you print, copy, and scan documents / 3d objects with ease.
It’s most useful for small businesses and entrepreneurs as it streamlines your work flow, allowing you to have more time to attend to other things. (Such as more time for sleep and play.. Something I desperately need to catch up on!!!)
So what sets the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro apart from other printers / scanners?
• It has no annoying flat lid that almost ALL traditional scanners come with
• An 8MP camera is mounted on the top of the scanner to capture high-res scans of documents & 3d objects, taking 6 different pictures with 3 flashes, combining all of that into one picture
This means I can actually scan whole cupcakes for my business – instead of only being able to scan paper documents!! If you run a small business like I do, and need relatively sharp images of your products quickly uploaded to your email or website, then the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro does the job for you in 5 seconds because it
• Scans / copies to your computer / prints documents in one single touch
• Instantly removes the background of the object, making it look more professional
Wanna sell accessories on your blogshop, or other small items on eBay but don’t have a good camera on hand? No problem – scan away with the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro like I did in the above! How good does that look?
• Scan WITHOUT a PC directly to email addresses and network folders or to a shared folder on a networked computer
• The HP ePrint function allows me to send photos, PDF documents, and various other files from virtually anywhere using my mobile phone to a customized HP ePrint email address, and my HP TopShot LaserJet Pro at home will automatically start printing out the files..
I took a photo with Sam’s phone earlier that day, then had him e-mail it to my HP ePrint account when he went out so that I may admire myself all day…. Just kidding, I just wanted to see how an average iPhone quality pic would turn out when printed!
(yes I know I look really creepy.. I don’t know why also LOL I blame the lighting and heavy eyeliner and strange head tilt. for the record this photo was taken months back, really late at night and when I just dyed my hair red.)
I’ve never come across another printer besides the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro that has this ultra convenient function.
I don’t even have to be at home to toggle with the settings – my documents will be ready and waiting for me by the time I get back! I figured this is also quite a romantic feature. This would’ve been perfect if I had it around when I was in a long distance relationship with Sam… I’d make him type surprise love letters and send it to my HP ePrint email every night before he goes to sleep, so I have something romantic to read the moment I get up. LOL idea right? In fact I think I’m going to make him do that the next time he goes overseas. HAHAHA. If I go overseas without him and he’s all alone, I’ll take pictures of where I’ve been all day then have it printed out for him to view at home
Here’s what a scanned cupcake of mine using the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro looks like, with zero editing done to it except resizing (original file is really big)
Not bad for a scanner, huh? But wait till you see the next picture.
The effect would be even better if it wasn’t a creamy cupcake, the glossiness and one color tone kinda throws off the lighting a bit. Say if it were a necklace it would look a lot nicer. I tried it with some accessories and the results were super crisp and clear!
AMAZING quality for a scanner / printer!!!! O_O
I was honestly impressed when I saw this. And once again, no traces of any background. Love it. (Btw, isn’t my necklace pretty? Hehe)
If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought the photo was taken with a good digital camera / DSLR and assumed the person must have spent some effort to remove the background from the photo to have it look like that. But nope, zero seconds of my life will be wasted any further. To scan this necklace into my computer took mere seconds.
No fussing around with DSLRs, no rushing to set up decent lighting at night. Ace the lighting any time of day! Did you know that to take pictures of my cupcakes at night, I used to set up a huge studio ring light (that alone costs $100++!) and my cupcakes would actually MELT before I could get a proper picture due to the heat from the harsh lighting of the ring light!! Ffff. I’ll take a 5 second job by the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro any time. It is basically like a mini studio in a box. I don’t even need to extract the picture’s data from a memory card because I can directly save the image from my computer, as long as WiFi is connected!
Additionally, the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro also boasts…
• Impressively vivid color prints, especially for a laser printer
• Professional-quality text prints for all your business documents
• Ultra user-friendly touch screen navigation makes printing and scanning seamless to do
• Offers a range of apps free-of-charge for businesses and everyday people to use
I was fascinated by their extensive range of free-of-charge applications that are both useful and fun to have. You can schedule for your favorite Yahoo news to be printed daily so that you get your morning paper before everyone else. The kids can also have fun with it by printing out Sudoku and Crossword puzzles. There are more apps available for download from the web.
Most notably, I like the Biztree app that comes in-built with what looks like hundreds of different forms you could print out and use for your business!!! Imagine all the different possibilities for entrepreneurs around the world.
They’ve got everything from Resume Application Form, Stock Checklist Form, Customer Complaint Form…
This is what the premade Customer Complaint Form looks like, taken with my expensive DSLR:
Zero editing. Camera lens distorted the text… annoying camera flash sheen around the blue color area and it just looks kind of meh.
Next, check out what my HP TopShot LaserJet Pro printer scanned for me:
Now, that’s professional stuff right there. Would anybody have guessed I printed and scanned this sleek document from my home printer? Probably not. Having said that hopefully none of you business owners would ever need a good Customer Complaint form ah.
The thing I love most about the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro?
When a customer orders a specific customized design for their cakes or cupcakes, I print high quality true-to-color scans out with my HP TopShot LaserJet Pro so that I have a reference picture to look at while designing the cake. It’s impossible to store so many designs and intricate details in my brain. This is vital for my business because if I were to invest in a shitty printer that messed up the contortions or colors of the actual cake design they give me to use as reference, then I’m going to be getting angry emails and phone calls from said customer…
Cake customers are *extremely* picky about the EXACT color their cake comes in, so I need to make sure I’ve got the quality nailed in the head! Before HP TopShot LaserJet Pro came along, I actually had to use my iPhone to open up the image and that was so stupid because
1) It drained my battery faster.. as if iPhone batteries don’t already drain fast enough
2) The iPhone screen is so small, resulting in inconspicuous details
Since we’re on the topic of my iPhone I randomly scanned it for you guys to see, lol
3) My iPhone would be covered in buttercream everyday because it sits in the middle of my messy workplace… gross, lol. This is all a true story, btw.
Another real life example of how my HP TopShot LaserJet Pro is being used in my kitchen right now!!! We just got a new helper and she helps us bake rainbow cake sometimes. Fearing she might forget the colors of the rainbow (my previous one always did?!?) I printed out a rainbow cake picture for her to look at every single day until she sees rainbows in her sleep. LOL.
So, in a nutshell, the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro is an innovative new invention to make the lives of entrepreneurs and blogshop / small business owners that much easier.
As convenient as the HP TopShot LaserJet Pro is to use, do also take note that extremely reflective / glossy surfaces, large items that do not fit within the scan area, or white colored 3d objects are not so ideal for usage.
As mentioned before, I’d like to show my appreciation for your having your support all this time!!!
I will be having a TopShot Blogger Sale, specially for my blog readers.
From now (26th September) until 3rd October, anyone who orders THIS design of cupcakes (specifically this flower taken by my HP TopShot LaserJet Pro! can change color) will have it at $20 for 6 cupcakes instead of the usual $25 for 6.
This is a real steal because the $25 for 6 pricing is already a promotion and the lowest price possible for basic cupcakes, the quotes for more intricate customized cupcakes are at a totally different rate! Please clearly insert code: “HP TOPSHOT” when ordering your cupcakes via the 6 for $25 order form on my website, so I know you’ve read this.
Limited to the first 10 sets of orders only…. so, fastest fingers first!!! Go go go!
